Nichols – Funeral rites were being arranged today for Master Glen Robert Chown, three and one half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chown, who succumbed to crushing internal injuries at Mercy hospital at Iowa City at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The youth, run over by a car driven by Clifford Braun, Nichols high school student, shortly after noon Tuesday, failed to regain consciousness.
Witnesses said Braun failed to see the Child, which was crossing the street behind his machine, as he backed the car away from the curb near the Friedli restaurant. The machine wheels passed over the child’s body.
Blood transfusions were given at the Iowa City hospital but the child failed to rally. He was rushed to the hospital by Dr. V. O. Muench and his parents.
The son of Robert and Doris Chown, Glen Robert was born at Nichols, Dec 21, 1936. Surviving besides his parents are a brother, Freddie Lou and a sister, Karen Lee, Three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Poole, and Mrs. Elizabeth Chown, and several uncles and aunts, Dick Poole and Betty Poole and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Chown all of Nichols.
Funeral services have been tentatively set for Friday, details to be announced later.
