Mrs. Augusta Quist, Who Came to Stanton 72 Years Ago, Dies
Stanton, Dec 6 – Mrs. Augusta Quist, 82, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Larson, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Death resulted from old age and complications. She had been bedfast for about ten weeks. Born May 11, 1857 in Vestotland, Sweden, the daughter of August and Marie Rydberg, she came to American at the age of 9 with her mother. They settled at Neoga, Ill., where they lived until 1867, when they moved to Stanton in a covered wagon. She was a charter member of the Mamrelund Lutheran church. On January 27, 1877, she was married to Charles A. Quist. They lived on a farm until 1918 when they moved into Stanton. Mr. Quist died May 24, 1927. She was preceded in death by three children, Edwin in infancy, Synida at the age of three years, and Clarence on December 18, 1926. Mrs. Quist lived in Stanton until a few years ago when she went to live with her children.
5 Children Survive
Two daughters and three sons survive. They are Mrs. Paul Larson, Red Oak, Mrs. Frank Nelson, Arnold, Elery, and Harry of Stanton, 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A step sister, Mrs. John P. Larson of Stanton and a step brother, J. S. Anderson of Stanton, also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Paul Larson home at 1:30 p.m. and at the Mission church in Stanton at 2 p.m. with Rev. A. Leonard Smith, pastor of the Lutheran church in charge. Music will be furnished by a quartet composed of four grandchildren, Mrs. Rudolph Peterson, Mrs. Wayne Larson, and Irving and Orville Nelson, and Dave Gustafson of Red Oak as soloist.
Grandsons Pallbearers
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Orville Nelson, Irving Nelson, Alden Nelson, Merlin Larson, Wayne Larson, Rudolph Peterson, and Donovan Quist. The floral committee will consist of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Erickson of Red Oak and Mr. and Mrs. John W. Anderson. Burial will be in Mamre cemetery. Perryman funeral service of Red Oak is in charge.
