Stanton Man Dead
Stanton, March 12 – Swan J. Velander, resident of this county since 1881, died at his home southwest of Stanton, Friday morning, March 7, at 7:30 o’clock, death being due to paralysis. He was sick about four days. Mr. Velander was born Sweden, April 20, 1838, and was married there to Ingrid Johnson, June 22, 1879. To this union were born three children, as follows: Julius and Ivar, Stanton, and Verner, Pittsburg, Pa.. He is survived by the three children and Mrs. Velander. Mr. and Mrs. Velander came directly to Stanton from Sweden in 1881 and followed his trade, that of a barber. Funeral services were held at the home at 1;30 o’clock and at the Lutheran church at 2:30, Tuesday, March 11, Rev. Alexis Andreen, of Red Oak, conducting the funeral services. Pallbearers were John Veak, Alfred Ambur, Otto Bergren, Axel Liljequist, Charles Nimrod and A. A. Peterson. Burial was in Mamrelund cemetery. Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. John Winquist, Laurel, Neb.; Mrs. Carl Forsberg, Concord, Neb.; Miss Amanda Johnson and N. J. Jubilin, Omaha, Verner Velander was home a week before his father’s death and was unable to return for the funeral.
