Funeral services for Ivar Velander, 78, of Clarinda were held Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarinda with Pastor Alvin Newton of Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood officiating. Mr. Velander died Friday, Aug 1 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital after being admitted the previous day.
Ivar Velander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Svel Velander, was born Jan 20, 1892 at Stanton. He was reared in the Stanton area, living at Guss before moving to Clarinda. He was employed at the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda for 15 years and for 11 years he had made his home at the Clarinda Hotel. He was a charter member and past Commander of Ernie Johnson American Legion, Post No.406 at Stanton. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Leona, and one brother. His only survivors are nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Bill Bench, Vilas Bownes, Ted Miller, Fiddle Miller, Bill Hemphill, and Neal Rastofer. Mrs. Duaine Wagoner was organist. Mrs. Clark Herzberg was at the register book and userhs were Darwin Herzberg and James Woldruff. Interment was in Mamre cemetery and graveside rites were conducted by Ernie Johnson, American Legion Post No.406 of Stanton. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Lavelle Funeral Home in Clarinda.
