Funeral services for Eugene "Gene" Steiber, 66, Shenandoah, formerly of Red Oak were Friday, Feb. 5, at the Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel with Dr. Richard Skelley officiating. Burial was in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Mt. Steiber died Monday (Feb. 1, 1999) at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha after a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Council Bluffs to Roy and Ella ( Speidel ) Steiber. His family moved to the Lewis area when he was two years old and he was a resident of the Montgomery and Pottawattamie county area all his life. He graduated from the Elliott High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Dixie Thomas in Corning Dec. 3, 1958. He farmed all his life, enjoyed riding on RAGBRAI and was a member of the Center Ridge Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Luella, and a brother, Jim.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie Steiber of Shenandoah, two daughters, Sheri Ross and her husband, Mike, of Omaha and Cheryl Valeika and her husband, Tom, of Fordland, MO, three grandchildren, Joshua and Ryan Briggs and Thadd Valeika, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
