Funeral services for Richard Paul " Dick " Baird, 61, Red Oak, will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home with Jerry Dietz officiating. Burial qill be in the Evergren Cemetery with military graveside rites. Memorials may be directed to Debbie Anderson. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.aldfuneralhome.com . Mr. Baird died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at his home in Red Oak after a courageous battle with cancer.

he was born Aug. 1, 1946 in Creston to Harold and Martha (Stephens ) Baird. He was raised in Iowa and graduated from Storm Lake High School. He entered the U.S. Army on March 29, 1965 serving until March 28, 1968, when he was honorably discharged. Following the military, he lived in Storm Lake for 11 years. In 1980, he moved to Red Oak and was the head "scratch "cook at the Red Coach in Red Oak for 18 years. He was a true NASCAR fan and to him, the only drivers were Dale Earnhardt #3 and #8 memorabilia and his collection is very extensive. He loved going to the races at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City. He also enjoyed woodworking, horses, and reading western stories.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Darwin Keith Baird and James Baird.

Survivors include his companion of 20 years, Debbie Anderson of Red Oak, parents, Harold and Martha Baird of Red Oak, brother, Don Baird and his wife Donna of Arvada, Colorado, sister-in-law, Bernice Baird of Red Oak, nieces, nephew, close friends, Kerry and Donna Yeager and their children, Dillon and Nicky, other relatives and friends.
