Funeral of Mrs. Martha Brown.
The funeral services in memory of Mrs. Martha Brown, widow of George Brown, who died at her home in Red Oak May 9, were held at the home on Monday afternoon, May 14. Wilbur Brown, son of Mrs. Brown, arrived from Portland, Ore., Sunday night. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Silas Cooke, D. D.. of the Presbyterian church. The singing was by a quartet, Mrs. F.C. Clark, Mrs. Carl Tracy and Messrs. O.P. Worsley and B.D. Bolt. The pallbearers were John A. Barr, George Diener, John Hull, E. Neudeck, C.J. Pratt and Cooper Skinner. Mrs. Brown was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Oct 1, 1839. Her maiden name was Martha E. Braginton. Her youth was spent in Connecticut and Ohio. She was married to Geo. Brown in Ohio Oct. 27th, 1862. They moved from Ohio to Louisa county, Iowa, and in the spring of 1876 came to Red Oak. Mr. Brown died three years ago. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Brown, three of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Florence E. Griffin, of Nebraska City, who was with her mother when she died, and Wilbur F. Brown, of Portland, Ore. There are seven grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Congregational Church.
