DIED THE SAME DAY

Two Old Residents of Red Oak Died Friday, Sept 23.

Two old residents of Red Oak, Ex Councilman George Brown and Jesse W. Sautbin, died last Friday. Mr. Brown died shortly before 5 o'clock in the morning and Mr. Sautbin about 1 p.m. Both died from paralysis.

The funeral services of Ex Councilman Brown were held at the home, 105 Nuckolls st. on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. They were conducted by Rev. C.P. Boardman of the Congregational church. The singing was by Misses Alice Shipman and Rachel Tonner, O.P. Worsley and Raymond Hughes. There was a large attendance of friends at the funeral. In attendance from elsewhere were Mr. and Mrs. John Griffin and children from Nebraska City, and William O'Connell, from Griswold. Mrs. Griffin is a daughter of Mr. Brown. Mr. O'Connell is an old time friend. The pall-bearers were F.Y. Barnes, John Barr, George Diener, John Hull, Edward Neudeck and William O'Connell.

Mr. Brown was in his 68th year. He was born in Summit county, O., Aug 2, 1837, and was married in that county to Miss Martha E. Braginton Oct. 11, 1860. He came to Iowa in 1862, residing in Louisa county until 1876, then coming to Red Oak. He had been a resident of Red Oak nearly 29 years. Mr. Brown was a member of the Congregational church. He was elected a member of the Red Oak city council in 1902 and served two years. He was an advocate of street paving and other public improvements. He was a scrupulously honest man, industrious and kindly. He is survived by Mrs. Brown, one son, Wilbur Brown, of Portland, Ore, and one daughter, Mrs. Florence Griffin, of Nebraska City.
