VILLISCA’S OLDEST
RESIDENT DIES

Funeral services were held July 26, 1972 from the Wolfe Funeral Home at 2 p.m. for Selma Christine Wert. Rev. Dennis Neal officiated. Miss Helen Bunker was organist. Carolyn Harris was soloist, Songs were “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Flowerbearers were Mrs. Zoe Dunn and Mrs. Darlene Brock. Casketbearers were Michael Johnson, Larry Johnson, Robert Boelling, James Boelling, Thomas Boelling, Douglas Porter.
Interment was in the Villisca, Iowa Cemetery.

Obituary
Selma Christina Peterson Wert, daughter of Fredericka and Carl Otto Peterson, was born January 20, 1875, at Rariton, Illinois, one of seven children, and died at Villisca, Iowa, on July 24, 1972, at the age of 97 years. Mrs. Wert was the last surviving member of her family.
She was confirmed into the Mamrelund Church at Stanton, Iowa, and was a resident of Montgomery County all of her life.
She was married to Charles Allen Wert on February 10, 1902. To this union was born three daughters. Her husband and an infant daughter preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Gardner of Villisca and Mrs. Tillie Irwin of Des Moines; sixgrandchildren; twenty great grandcildren and five great great grandchildren, comprising four sets of five generations each.
To Mrs. Wert her life was her family and her home. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Interment will be at the Villisca Cemetery beside her husband.
