CHARLES A. WERT

Charles A. Wert, 81, for many years a resident of Villisca, died Sept. 15 at the Municipal hospital in Clarinda.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 18, at 2:30 p.m. at the Wolfe funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Elliott T. Bodwell. The singing was by Cecil Weaver, accompanied by Mrs. Frances Wheeler, and in charge of the flower were Mrs. Lee Gage and Mrs. Chas. Moore. Pallbearers were Junior Irwin, Gary Irwin, Ralph Peterson, Bill Porter, Lloyd Bergman, and Ernest Boelling and interment was in the Villisca cemetery.
Mr. Wert worked as a engineer in the oil fields of Indiana and later as fireman on the Rock Island railroad. When he came to Iowa, he was transferred to the Burlington railroad. He was also a carpenter for many years, retiring from active work several years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Wert were married on Feb. 2, 1902, in Red Oak and made their home in Villisca where they continuously since their marriage. They were both members of the Christian church.
Mr. Wert leaves his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Tillie Irwin, Des Moines, and Mrs. Pearl Gardner, Villisca, a sister, Mrs. Lydia Griner, Redwood City, Calif., six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
