LAST RITES FOR
MRS. J.K. GARDNER
HELD SUNDAY P.M.

Nancy Rebecca Gardner, a resident of Villisca and vicinity for 51 years, died Thursday morning, Dec. 23, at the family home here, her death following an illness of several years.
Nancy Rebecca Black, daughter of Loman and Sarah Black, was born at Knoxville, Ia., Feb. 20, 1873, and was 70 years old at her death. Her early life was spent near Eldon, Ia. She was married to James Kinzie Gardner at Libertyville, Ia., on June 9, 1892 and to them were born four children.
Three daughters preceded their mother in death: Mrs. Etta Case, Mrs. Dora Overman, and an infant daughter, Ethel. She is survived by her husband and one son, Samuel L. Gardner of Villisca, and four grandchildren, Helen and Billy Marie Gardner of Villisca, Dorus Overman in military service, and Mrs. Marie Case Kammers of Santa Fe, N. Mex., and one great-granddaughter, Rebecca Irene Kammers.
She was a member of the Baptist church if Villisca. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Wolfe funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W.S. Bowden, assisted by Mrs. Bertha Peters. The pallbearers were Frank Umphress, Ben Cohoon, Orville Marsh, Roy Bowman, W.O. Pederson and Ernie Westerlund and the singing was by Mrs. Helen Penwell, accompanied by Mrs. Frances Gray. Interment was in the Villisca cemetery. Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Dorus Overman and Henry Overman of Shenandoah, granddaughters and son-in-law, and Pvt. Duane D. Slater of Camp White, Oregon.
