Catherine Maureen (McGrath) Miller, 83, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

Services will be held Tuesday, December 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines, IA. A rosary will begin at 10 a.m. with Mass at 11 a.m. followed by a light luncheon and fellowship.

She was born January 31, 1933, on a farm in Melrose, IA to Arthur and Mary (Ciska) McGrath. Known as Maureen to friends and family, she was the second born of five siblings: Arthur Jr, Jack, Darlene and Ed.

Maureen was a gifted student and graduated valedictorian from Melrose High School in 1951. Upon graduation, Maureen moved to Des Moines to begin what would be a long and successful career in business. Her first job was at LOOK Magazine, later she took a position with Northwestern Bell Telephone. She retired from Northwestern Bell at age 53 as the business office manager.

Maureen spent the next 30 years enriching the lives of everyone she knew. She was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She treated everyone with respect and taught everyone the true meaning of unconditional love.

Every day of the week she could be found enjoying grandchildren's sporting events, socializing with friends at lunch, attending Melrose Mother's Club, networking with NW Bell friends and being involved with her neighborhood association.

Maureen was married to James H. Miller in 1954. This union was blessed with three sons, Michael, Patrick (Cindy) and Daniel; and one beloved daughter, Lori (Mark) Millsap.

Survivors include four children, Michael, Patrick (Cindy) and Daniel Miller and daughter, Lori (Mark) Millsap; grandchildren, Amanda, Katy, Danny, Shaun (Lauren) and Turner Miller, Brett (Megan) Millsap, Lindsay (Dave) O'Loughlin, Andrea Langford, and Libby (Mike) Endorf; great grandchildren, Cayden, Jack and Audrey Miller, McKale Millsap, Colin, Jack and Bennett Endorf; her brother, Ed (Nancy) McGrath; sister-in-law, Rita McGrath and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mary (Ciska) McGrath; brothers, Art and Jack; and her sister, Darlene.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
