John W. Baugh, 88, a former resident of Monroe county, died Monday, January 1, at St. Anthony's hospital in Rock Island.
He was the son of Emanuel and Emily Richmond Baugh, and was born January 8, 1879 in Putnam county, Missouri. He lived in the Rock Island area for the past 25 years where he was employed by the J.I. Case Co. prior to his retirement. He farmed for several years in Monroe county.
For the past 15 years he had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Loren Patrick of Milan, Illinois.
He was married Oct. 17, 1900 to Mary Edna Collins.
She died in 1951. Two sons preceeded him in death. Surviving are 6 daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Clarice) Morton of Chariton, Mrs. Raymond Edith Alderson and Mrs. Richard (Vione) Hilyard of Gillispie, Illinois, Mrs. Edison (Frances) Davis of East Moline Illinois, and Mrs. Loren (Valee) Patrick of Milan, Illinois; three sons, Howard, John and Glenn Baugh all of Rock Island: 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at two o'clock at the Downs Funeral Home in Albia with the Rev. Donald Plum officiating and burial following in Bethel cemetery near Russell.
