Foster Man Is Killed by Slate Fall

William Hoadley Fatally Injured Thursday Afternoon; Funeral Here Sunday.

William H. Hoadley, 32 years old, of Foster was fatally injured Thursday afternoon when struck by falling slate at the Ed Hawk mine near Christiansburg in Wapello county.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Humeston funeral home here, the Rev. C. L. Young officiating. Burial was in Eslinger cemetery near Foster.

Caught by a sizeable fall of slate, Mr. Hoadley suffered a broken neck, internal injuries and was paralyzed. He was rushed by auto to Miners hospital in Albia, reaching here at 4 p.m. and dying five minutes later. Two other miners in the same room escaped injury.

He was born June 23, 1905, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theron Hoadley, and had spent all of his life in the vicinity except for two years at Rexfield. He was unmarried.

Surviving are a brother, Ivan Hoadley of Foster; and two sisters, Mrs. Curtis Goudy of Ottumwa and Mrs. Edward Peterson of Flint, Mich. His father died in 1934 and his mother in 1936.

Wapello county officials are in charge of the coroner's inquest.
