DRIVER FALLS UNDER WHEEL OF COAL CAR

Wife and Three Children Survive Well Known Man

Quintin Biggins, about 35 years old, was killed at 10:45 this morning at the Smoky Hollow Coal Co. mine in Hiteman, when he fell under the wheels of a coal car. He was a driver at the mine.

The body was brought to the Allen & Lewis funeral home in Albia, where it was viewed by Coroner Frank N. Bay.

Mr. Biggins, widely-known Hiteman man, was dead when found, his neck fractured by a wheel of the heavy coal car. George Leggett, who found him, said he and Biggins had whistled to each other only a few minutes before the accident.

Leggett, also a driver, then went around a turn in the mind passageway. When Biggins did not follow him, he returned to investigate and found him beneath the car. He apparently died instantly, the reason for his fall is not known.

As is customary, the mine was at once closed for the day.

Mr. Biggins, who came to Hiteman a number of years ago from old Smoky Hollow, is survived by his wife; two sons, Gerald and Quintin, jr; a daughter, Alice Louise; and his father, John Biggins of Hiteman.

Dr. Bay this afternoon was preparing to impanel a coroner's jury and conduct an inquest.
