HAROLD 'SAM' E. MANLEY SR.

Harold “Sam” E. Manley Sr., 69 of Clutier formerly of Albia, died Thursday, Nov. 9 as a result of an automobile accident in Tama County.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, with The Minister Harry Manley officiating. Burial with military rites by Howard Cessna American Legion Post 136 will be at Pleasant Corners Cemetery.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1931 to John K. and Sarah M. Nation Manley. He was a graduate of Albia High School in 1949, after which he joined the United States Marines and served two tours of duty in Korea, where he served as a first sergeant of a medical battalion at the age 21.
After the Marines he enrolled at George Washington University, he then worked for General Electric for 28 years as an auditor and accountant retiring in 1990 and moving back to Iowa.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, and was active in promoting tourism in Albia. He was in the play entitled “Too Soon for Daises” and was in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie called “Harvest of Fire”.
Mr. Manley moved to Iowa City in 1998 and in June of this year he moved to Clutier. While in Iowa City he was on the Senior Citizen Center Board, the Emergency Housing Project, the Wesley House Foundation and the Johnson County Rotary Club. While in Clutier, he had joined the Tama County Rotary Club.
He is survived by a special friend Jean Kopf of Iowa City; one son, Harold “Harry” Manley Jr. of Fresno, Texas; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Norris of Mt. Pleasant, Margaret Kness of Albia; a half-sister, Janice Dicks, Albia and one brother Rex of San Diego, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother. Memorials can be made to the Albia Public Library. Gilbert-Nordstrom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
