Helen Margaret Kosman

Helen Margaret Kosman, 76, of Albia, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, Rev. William Walter officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia.
She was born July 15, 1926, in Monroe County, to Carl E. and Faye L. Grimes Johnson. She married Francis Joseph Kosman on Feb. 22, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia. She was a graduate of Albia High School, class of 1943 and attended one year of college where she received her teacher's certificate. She taught in the Lamar and Morris Country Schools and after she and Francis were married, she taught for a few years at Vosburg Country School in Monroe County. She was a homemaker. After moving off the farm into Albia, she worked at Trophy Glove Company and Kness Manufacturing in Albia. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia and it's Altar and Rosary Society, where she had served as past president of that group. She was also a member of the Crazy Quilters Guild of Monroe County. She was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
She is survived by her husband of Albia; three daughters, Marlene Kosman and Barb Kosman, both of Des Moines, Peggy Brothers and husband John of Columbia, Mo.; four sons, Pat Kosman and wife Lynda of Albia, Mike Kosman and wife Susan of Creston, John Kosman and wife Janet of St. Joseph, Mo., and Steve Kosman of Albia; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Larry Johnson of Albia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter; and one brother, DeWayne Johnson.
Visitation began at 9 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday evening. Rev. William Walter will lead a rosary at 7 p.m., Tuesday evening.
An open memorial has been established.
Winfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
