John J. Comer

John J. Comer, 77 of Ottumwa, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at Ottumwa Regional Heath Center. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ottumwa, Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia.

He was born Dec. 2, 1924 to James and Anna Shovlain Comer in Georgetown. He married Geraldine Gasper on Aug. 4, 1951 in Albia. He was a graduate of Melrose High School, and was a resident of Ottumwa since 1953. He worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works for 38 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #888.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kathleen Van Sickle of Des Moines and Joan Comer Wright of Solon; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson; three brothers, Gene, James and Leo Comer; and one sister, Maxine Griffin.

Visitation began at 9 a.m., Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with a rosary recited at 3 p.m. and a Christian wake service to be held at 7 p.m. The family will be present from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday evening.

A memorial has been established to St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 820 Church St. Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.

Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
