Mrs. John Griffin Called To Her Reward

Mrs. Ellen Cullinane Griffin passed to her reward Tuesday, March 23. Her death marked the close of an ideal Christian mother's life.

Almost all of her life was spent in the neighborhood in which she died. She was a remarkable woman in many ways, always doing good to others.

She was one of the pioneers of Monroe county, being born near Georgetown in 1858.

She was united in marriage to John Griffin in 1876. To this union were born eleven children; Mrs. John L. Sullivan of Lovilia; Perry Griffin of Galveston, Texas; Matt of Burlington; Joseph of Cooks Mills, Mich.; Mrs. Agnes Wisdom of Omaha; Jas. Griffin of Melrose; Mrs. Ray Burns, deceased; Anna and Rose who died in infancy; William Griffin of Melrose and Mrs. Raymond Shrader of Omaha.

Besides her children, she is survived by her husband, four sisters; Mrs. Michael Grady of Georgetown; Mrs. J. E. Knowles; Mrs. P. McGinn of Melrose and Mrs. Martin Flahive of Weller and one brother, William Cullinane of Melrose, many grandchildren, other relatives and host of friends who mourn her departure.

The funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. Patrick's church. Requiem high mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Father McCormick who pronounced the final absolution and preached the funeral sermon. The funeral was largely attended from near and far by relatives and friends. The pall bearers were nephews; Mark Flahive of Weller; James Grady of Georgetown; Pete Flahive of Weller; Martin Ciska; Adrian Doyle and Dan Flavine of Weller.

Internment was in the Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Sullivan of Lovilia; Mrs. Margaret Barron, John, Matt and Agnes Ryan of Weller; Mrs. Thomas Shovelan, William Kearney, Mrs. Jannie O'Brien, James McGinn of Weller, Ray Burns and sons of Mindan, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Griffin of Burlington; Leo Doyle of Aurora, Ill.; Mrs. James O'Neill of Georgetown.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.
