Obituary
Rowles

W. A. Rowles, son of O. P. and Louisa Lower Rowles, was born July 4, 1853 on the farm, 3 miles south of Albia, Iowa, and passed away in the same house in which he was born, at 9:45 P.M., August 8, 1945, at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 4 days.

He attended country school and a short term in the Albia high school and taught several terms of country school. At the age of 18, he united with the M.E. church at Selection, Iowa, under the pastorate of Rev. D. T. Monroe, and later transferred his membership to the Albia M. E. church, where he has served continuously for 50 hers as a trustee.

He was united in matrimony with Sarah E. Hinton February 18th, 1877 and together they have shared life's joys and sorrows for 68 1/2 years.

Three children were born to them, Mrs. Cyrus Hall, Arthur G., deceased, and Mrs. Jas. Dorman, both of Albia, Iowa. Five grandchildren are left to mourn his departure; also 5 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. J. L. Pierson.

Mr. Rowles was a regular attendant at Church and Sunday School and contributed of his means in support of same and every other worthy cause, and especially was he a fervent believer in prohibition. He was not without his human faults, but his faith was firmly fixed on the Rock of Ages and in his Creator and Redeemer was placed his whole trust.

He was an active member of the church for 72 years, and a member of the Big Brothers class.

And so, after being separated from his wife, who passed on, just two weeks previous to a day, he has been garnered, like unto a sheath of fruited, ripened grain, to “Dwell in the House of the Lord forever.”

May those who are left behind prove worthy of the heritage he has left them.

Services were held Friday, July 10, at the First Methodist church, with the Lewis funeral home in charge and Rev. Cecil A. Wells officiating. Internment was in Oak View cemetery.
