Leo Carr

The death of Leo Carr occurred at St. Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa, Saturday night at 12 0'clock, from an operation following influenza. He was taken to the hospital Thursday and underwent an operation Friday in the hope of saving his life, but to no avail. His brother, James Carr, and wife and brothers, William and Ed Carr, and sister, Miss Mary Carr, were with him and everything possible was done for him.

He was well prepared to go and died a most beautiful death. The remains, accompanied by the relatives, were shipped home on No.9 Sunday evening. General Shields Council, Knights of Columbus of Ottumwa, attended in a body and accompanied the remains to the station.

Leo Carr was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Carr. He was born at the farm home west of Melrose, March 19, 1899, and died at Ottumwa, Jan. 11, 1919. He had spent all his life with his parents at home. He was a dutiful son, the pride of his parents and family and very popular with his wide circle of young friends. He is survived by his parents, brothers, T. P., John, William, J. M., Charles, Patrick, and Edward, and sisters, Mary and Nellie, and many relatives and friends.

He was a devout Catholic, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and had a bright future before him. His death is regretted by the entire community and all deeply sympathize with the bereaved family in their great sorrow. The funeral was held Monday afternoon with short services at St. Patrick's church, Rev. Father McCormick officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calvary cemetery. The pallbearers were Michael Fitzgerald, Willie McGrath, Ed Scieszinski, John Morrison, Leo Coughlin, and Ray Hannam. Friends from a distance present were his aunts, Misses Mary and Sara Hanna, and cousin, M. R. Hanna of Omaha. --Melrose Bell
