OBITUARY

Lucinda* Goode was born near Cincinnati, Ohio, July 4, 1839; came to Iowa in 1843; left an orphan at the age of 4 years, she was given a home with Mr. and Mrs. Philander Tyrrell where she grew to young womanhood; was married to Gideon Chedister* April 30, 1856. To this union were born ten children, four sons and six daughters: Minerva, who died in childhood, Mrs. Jane Bates of Avery; Mrs. Sarah Burnside and Mrs. Matilda Judson of Albia; Mrs. Nancy Aiken of Ottumwa; Elmer who died at the age of 19 years; O. C. Castena; Ada died at the age of 23 years; Perry A. of Madrid and Edward of Omaha, Nebraska.

United with the Christian church of Cuba about 1872. Her husband died October 22, 1901. She moved to Oregon in 1903 and the following year was married to Jacob Sydman; came back to Iowa in 1906 and made her home with her children to the time of her death, which occurred, Sunday morning, October 21, 1917, at the home of her son, Perry, at Madrid, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 21 days.

She was one of Iowa’s pioneers and was always a friend to those in need of help, ever willing to administer to the sick and comfort those in distress. She was brought to Albia where a short service was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. H. Burnside, Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. Blagg of the M.E. church officiating. She was then taken to Bethel church east of Albia where a funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Aron Pierson of the Christian church.

Interment was made in the family lot in Bethel cemetery.
