Margaret Hannam

Margaret “Peg” Hannam, 83, of Albia died Sept. 1, 1986, at the Monroe County Hospital.

She was born in Monroe County on April 16, 1903, the daughter of John and Mary Kelly Sheedy. She lived most of her married life in the Melrose area before moving to Benton Place Apartments for eight years. She had been a resident at the Albia Manor since December 1985. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia.

On February 23, 1923, she married M. J. Hannam in Lovilia. He died in 1972.

Survivors include four daughters, Jean Turbat* of Russell, Sheila Starcevich of Centerville, Dorothy Donaghy of Ankeny and Dolores Scieszinski of Melrose; two sisters, Nell Hannam of Des Moines and Kate Coady of Melrose; 23 grandchildren, and 10 great - grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were one son, Robert, two sisters and two brothers.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose, with the Revs. Ernest Braida and M. J. Brothersen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.

A rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church, Melrose.

Gilbert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to St. Patrick's Church.

CARD OF THANKS: Our recent sad loss of our mother, Margaret (Peg) Hannam leaves us with grateful hearts toward Fr. M. J. Brothersen, Fr. Ernest Braida, Fr. Al Jungwirth, Dr. Don Orelup, the Monroe County Hospital staff, the Albia Manor staff, our relatives and friends for their masses, prayers, floral offerings, memorials, food, cards, visits and many other acts of kindness and to the Melrose St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society for the delicious dinner served following the funeral.
