In Memoriam

On Tuesday morning March 11, 1901, at the home of his parents about six miles south of Melrose occurred the death of Michael J. Cronin aged 25 years.

Some time ago Mike sustained an injury resulting in a broken limb from which he had almost fully recovered when stomach trouble set in and soon that promising young life was over. All that medical skill, careful attendance and untiring care could do was of no avail, death had marked him for his own. He knew he must die and was resigned, having received the last sacraments by Rev. J. O'Reilly.

He was a man of industrious, moral habits and a great favorite among the youths by whom he will be sorely missed. He leaves a father, mother, two brothers and one sister, besides a host of friends to mourn his early demise. His funeral occurred on the 13th and he was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Melrose.

“A precious one from us is gone,

A voice we loved is stilled;

A place is vacant in our home,

Which never can be filled.

God in his wisdom has re-called

The boon to us he had given;

And though the body slumbers here,

The soul is safe in Heaven.”
