20 January 1939"Maren Knutson, another one of our pioneer mothers, died in a Sioux City hospital Sunday at the age of 89 years. She was born in Norway and came to this country in 1882. She was a respected citizen and a fine mother and neighbor.
Maren Christianson Knutson was born in Urskog, Norway, November 5, 1849. She was baptized January 1, 1850 and was confirmed October 8, 1865 in the Lutheran faith. She died in a Sioux City hospital January 8 1939 at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Her husband died in 1898. From 1916 to 1928 she lived in the town of Soldier, but since then has made her home with her children.
She emmigrated to America in April, 1882. Not very long afterwards she was united in marriage to Engebret Knutson. To this union five children were born, one daughter, Mrs. Clara Anderson, preceding her in death. Those who remain to mourn her loss are; Mrs. Inga Sweum of Sioux City; Sadie Raybourn of Needles, California; Chris Knutson of Ute, and Mabel Anderson of Soldier, besides nineteen grandchildren.
The Mission Guild gave a Memorial wreath of five dollars to pensions in honor of Mrs. Knutson.
Funeral services were held in Soldier Wednesday, Rev. Hoff having charge. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery, in charge of Ralph Oldham."
