Funeral services were held at Mapleton at 9:30 a.m. Mon., St. Mary's Catholic church for John J. Stodden, 80, well known as a farmer for more than 45 years near Mapleton before his retirement about five years ago.

Rev. A. Ocken, pastor, officiated at the services. Burial was in the church cemetery. The rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Byers-Walter funeral chapel.

Mr. Stodden died Thursday at his home after several years sickness of a heart ailment.

Mr. Stodden was born June 26, 1870, in Germany. He came to Monona County 70 years ago and had lived in the Mapleton area for 46 years. He married Annalia Sievers in 1898 in the church in which his
funeral services were held.

Survivors include the widow; five daughters, Mrs. Josephine Dugan of Le Mars, la., Mrs. Helen Norland of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Evelyn Dea of Windsor, Ont.: Mrs. Delphine Jensen of Mapleton and Mrs. Genevieve Cooper of Detroit; nine grand ­children; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Andrew Stodden of Galena, laa., and a sister, Mrs. Kate Goeders of Carroll, Ia.
