Simon M. Hilliard, 88, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at the Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Onawa, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at noon Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin J. Boes officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Hilliard was born Aug. 11, 1908, in Ree Heights, S.D., the son of George and Mary (Kusser) Hilliard. He moved to Sioux City in 1921, attending school here.

He married Helen H. Carda on June 26, 1935, in Sioux City.

He was employed with Roberts Dairy for 15 years, then he had a milk route for eight years. He then owned and operated a rental store for 24 years, retiring in 1981.

Mr. Hilliard was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Men's Club. He was a church usher for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Melvin and Jane of Anaheim, Calif., a daughter and her husband, JoAnn and Tom Ross of Hot Springs, Ark., a brother, Paul of Boca Raton, Fla., a sister, Marian Tompkins of Sioux City; five grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis, and a brother, Henry.
