MAPLETON, Iowa -- Mary E. McCleerey, 95, of Mapleton died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCleerey was born May 3, 1901, at Chamberlain, S.D., the daughter of Elmer and Elvia (Smith) Bliss. She was raised in the Chamberlain area. She married Ray McCleerey on March 28, 1923, in Chamberlain. The couple farmed in the Mapleton area until 1935, when they moved into Mapleton. He died Sept. 27, 1973.

Mrs. McCleerey was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Gloria and Robert Sawin of Gernada Hills, Calif., four grandchildren, David, Curtis, Sheryl and Lorna; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Bob; two brothers and three sisters.
