ONAWA, Iowa -- Earl Lyle Thompson, 64, of Onawa died Sunday, Nov. 17 1996, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa, with military graveside rites provided by the Aaby American Legion, Post 442 of Ute. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Soldier, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Lizzie (Palm) Thompson. He attended school in Ute. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On July 8, 1962, he married Sharon Archer at the Christian Church in Onawa.

He was employed at Iowa Beef Packers, Doug Hanson Farms and David Archer Construction, and for the last 17 years he worked at Westendorf Manufacturing in Onawa as a fabricator.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Robin and her husband, Dan Riggs, of Le Mars, Iowa, and Julie Thompson and Ruben Yanak of Onawa; a special daughter, Tracy Heck; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Joyce of New Iberis, La., two sisters, Shirley Newman of Ute and Ruth Webster of Randall, and his mother-in-law, Buddy Archer of Whiting, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyle and Harmon; his father-in-law, Merle Archer; and his grandparents.
