Leo R. Dose, the son of William “Bill” and Rose (Brown) Dose, was born on October 10, 1932, on a farm west of Danbury, Iowa. The family relocated to a farm northwest of Mapleton, Iowa, where Leo received his education in country school and they continued to farm.

Leo was drafted into the United States Army and served for God and Country during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in September of 1955. Leo continued to show his support for his country as an active member of the Loren Hollister Post No. 496 of the American Legion of Mapleton, Iowa.

On November 6, 1955, Leo was united in marriage to Norma Jean Ehler in the St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Mapleton, Iowa. The couple farmed south of Mapleton for a short time and then relocated near Ricketts, Iowa in 1958. In 1968, they had the opportunity to purchase the family farm located northwest of Mapleton. Leo enjoyed passing down childhood memories as the couple raised their children Steve, Linda and Karla on the family farm.

Leo was a faithful member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Mapleton where he served as an elder and also held many other offices. Leo and Norma Jean were both confirmed in the same class of 1947. Norma Jean passed away on April 24, 2008. Leo then remarried Florice Cassens on September 18, 2010, in Mapleton.

After retiring from farming, Leo continued to keep busy with seasonal work for the NEW Coop, mowing and maintaining several yards. His favorite past times included fishing, hunting and trapping. As well as woodworking, playing cards and dancing. Leo’s greatest joy in his life was watching and attending his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s events. He was also an avid RAMs fan.
