23 April 1981Robert E. Thiel, 48, of Oakland, California and formerly of Mapleton, died Wednesday, April 15 in Oakland of a long illness.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Mapleton. The Rev. Walter Bruch officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Friday in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton.
Mr. Thiel was born June 6, 1932 to Joseph and Clara (Lange) Thiel at Greeley, Nebraska. He moved to the Mapleton Community in 1944 with his parents. He was a graduate of Mapleton High School in 1949. In 1956 he moved to Oakland where he was a bookkeeper for Chuck Hurley Electronics.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Donald.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Clara Thiel of Omaha; six brothers, Thomas of Ren ton, Washington; Larry of Ankeny; and Jerry, John "Fritz", Harry and Ronald, all of Omaha; six sisters, Mrs. Richard (Joann) Smith, Mrs. Jerry (Catherine) Wessling, Mrs. Arlene Johnson, Mrs. Richard (Marcy) Kleber and Mrs. Douglas (Jean) Dahl, all of Omaha, and Mrs. Charles (Ina) Feller of Chester, New Jersey.
Pallbearers were Kirk Thiel, Bert Johnson, Tom Smith, Joe Thiel, Brian Wessling, and Larry Thiel.
