23 April 1981Mrs. Archie Mahoney, 59, wife of the mayor of Ute, died Thursday, April 16, 1981 in an Omaha hospital of a long illness.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. The Rev. Robert Leege officiated. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home of Ute. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mahoney, the former Helen Elizabeth Kiepe, was born June 23, 1921 to Fred and Marie (Topf) Kiepe at Ute. She lived her entire life in the Ute
community. She married Archie Mahoney September 16, 1943, in Ute.She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, secretary-treasurer of the Sunday school and a member of the church Ladies Aid and had held various offices in the ladies organizations. She was also a member of the Friendship Club of the church. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and served on the election board for many years.
She did volunteer work for the library and had worked for several years in the Denison Hotel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Survivors include the widower; one son, James of Sioux City; four daughters, Mrs. Earl (Sandra) Haas of Overland Park, Kansas, Mrs. Douglas (Patricia) Titus of Sioux City, Miss Kathy of Des Moines and Miss Maureen of Ames; five grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Marjorie) Downing of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Clifford (Elsie) Aronson of Payson, Arizona.
Pallbearers were Louis Sander, Elmer Bartels, Wade Cooper, Dr. Robert Sharp, Donald Gries and Roy Borcherdt.
