Hazel Stewart, 88, of Mapleton, died Tuesday, November 16, 1983, in a nursing home at Battle Creek.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. Monsignor A.W. Behrens officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with a Bible Vigil at 8:00 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Miss Stewart was born February 4, 1896, to John and Annie (Anderson) Stewart in Madelia, Minnesota. She came to Mapleton at the age of 26 and worked as a cook at the Arlington Hotel (owned by the Muckey's) for 50 years, retiring in 1971.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Royal Neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Leonard (Marie) Dean of Southhaven, Minnesota.

Pallbearers were Albin Kleine, Henry Kluver, Maurice Zediker, Lawrence Bray, Walter Muckey and Ralph Habinck.
