Edward J. Doidge, 82, of Castana, died Friday, November 11, 1983, at his home.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Mapleton. Monsignor A.W. Behrens officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton, and a Bible vigil began at 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Doidge was born December 8, 1900, to William and Sophie (Plough) Doidge at Denison. He married Helen McGrain January 29, 1929, at Mapleton.

Mr. Doidge farmed in the Mapleton and Castana communities and served as caretaker for the Kennebec and Center cemeteries for 20 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Davis; one brother, Leon; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one son-in-law, F. Gerald Miller.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Herman of Marysville, California, Jerome of Yorba Linda, California, and LeRoy of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Miller of Creston, and Mrs. Virginia Bates of Riverside, California; three brothers, Francis, Walter and Roy, all of Denison; two sisters, Irene and Edna Doidge, both of Denison; 19 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were William Brink, Matt Doidge, Marvin McCall, William Miller, Jerry Radcliffe and Carl Moore.
