Wilhelmina "Millie" Veronica Powell, 89, of Mapleton, died Sunday, November 6, 1983, in a nursing home in Onawa.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mapleton. Msgr. A.W. Behrens officiated. There was a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Monday, November 7, at Walter Chapel, Mapleton.

Mrs. Powell, the former Wilhelmina Veronica Winneke, was born March 4, 1894, to Henry and Mary (Fisher) Winneke, at Neola, Iowa. She moved to the Dunlap vicinity as a child and lived in Crawford County until her marriage. She married H. John Powell August 11, 1920, at Ida Grove. They made their home at Mapleton except for one year at Broken Bow, Nebraska. He died in 1970.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Guild. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Mapleton and the Royal Neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, four brothers, two sons, one daughter, and one grandson.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lavern (Dorothy) Olson of Fort Collins, Colorado; four sons, Bernard of Denison, Leonard and Lawrence, both of Mapleton, and Francis of Sioux City; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dean Olson, Richard Powell, Walt Muckey, Harold Jensen, Leonard Wacheldorf, and Freddie Leisinger.
