Oliver P. "Ollie" Bennett, Jr., 60, of Mapleton, died Tuesday, September 13, 1983, at bis home after a long illness.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton. The Rev. Dick Krambeck officiated. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery
with graveside military rites conducted by Loren Hollister Post 496, American Legion. Masonic services were conducted by Quarry Lodge 404 AF and AM at 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Mr. Bennett was born September 12, 1923, to Oliver Potter and Helen (Kirk) Bennett in Sioux City. He was a lifelong area resident except for two years in Des Moines. He graduated from Mapleton Public School in 1941 and attended Drake University for a short time. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He married Rowena Burson June 17, 1944, at Bel Air, Maryland. He farmed in the Mapleton and Southland area.

Mr. Bennett was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple of Sioux City and a charter member of the Rotary Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, one son and one sister.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Glen (Carla) Marsh of Mapleton, Mrs. Samuel (Cassandra) Williamson of Oxford, Ohio, Mrs. Greg
(Jean) Kenner of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Leif Henning (Lt. Jan) LaGeide of Andenes, Norway; his mother, Mrs. Helen Bennett of Mapleton; two brothers, James of Des Moines and Kirk of Mapleton and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were George W. Witters, Ralph Edgington, Robert Frey, Robert Casey, Joseph Kirk and Mark Leachmen.
