Edwin A. Banks, 86, of Mapleton died Thursday, June 30, 1983, at a Sioux City hospital of a brief illness.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton. The Rev. Mark Smeltzer officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Banks was born on August 18, 1897, to John Patrick and Florence (Seely) Banks, at Elkhart, Indiana. He moved to Moville in 1923 and married.
Dorothy Marshall there on December 29, 1927. The couple farmed near Moville until 1929, then near Climbing Hill, then moved to Oto and in 1938 to Mapleton where he lived and farmed until retiring and moving into town in 1975. He was active in the Farm Bureau and in the soil conservation group.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Roberta Anderson, and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Detta Mae Stark of Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Robert and Eugene, both of Mapleton; a sister, Ann R. Banks of Mapleton; a brother, Herbert of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers were Ted Paulsrud, James Castle, Don Kirkpatrick, Greg Trucke, Arthur Castle and E.B. Woodward.
