While he had been in failing health three years, he was bedfast only five weeks. Death was caused by a complication of ailments incident to old age. Mr. Rohde was 70 years, 1 month and 17 days of age at the time of his demise. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph's Cemetery under direction of Hudgel's Funeral Service.

Joseph Rohde was born January 16, 1866, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. As a young man of 17 years, he emigrated to the United States in 1883. Coming to Woodbury County he was married February 28, 1889, at Danbury to Gertrude E. Berkemeier. The Rohdes lived on a farm north of Danbury eight years and then moved to Paskin, Wisconsin, where they made their home for three years. In 1900 the Rohde family moved to Anthon. Here Mr. Rohde followed several occupations, including the carpenter trade, until he entered the employ of the Cooperative Lumber Assn. In August 1906. When A.L. Wolfe took over the yard in 1907, Mr. Rohde continued as assistant to Mr. Wolfe for many years until ill health forced him to relinquish his duties three years ago after having worked in the same lumber yard for twenty-six years. Mr. Rohde spent the last three years of his life at Onawa, Iowa, he and his wife making their home with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Justin Keitges.
