Gary Ralph Vinke 1942 - 2021

Gary Ralph Vinke, 79, died unexpectedly at his home in Pisgah on October 31, 2021.

He was born on July 3, 1942, to Ralph and Loretta (Ewoldt) Vinke in Carroll. Gary was baptized on June 20, 1943, and later confirmed on April 14, 1957. He was currently a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute.

Gary was raised in the Manning and Gray, Iowa areas and graduated with the class of 1960 from Manning High School. Following his graduation, he worked at various jobs including: the Manning Creamery, Farmland Meat Packing, and later at the Aspinwall Co-Op and Fremont Grain Inspection.
Gary was united in marriage to Joyce (Otto) Vinke on April 27, 1963, in Manilla. They were blessed with four sons. After their sons were raised, the couple moved to Pisgah.

Gary enjoyed gardening, yard work and mowing. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and feeding and watching the birds. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Gary had a passion for riding and breaking horses, and he enjoyed teaching his sons how to break and ride too. Gary raised miniature ponies in his retired years. He also loved to kind-heartedly tease his grandkids.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, son, Lynn Vinke and parents-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 58 years of Pisgah; three sons, Brian (Kerry) of Ute, Craig (Susan) of Glenwood, Todd (Carol) of Milford; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two siblings, Gale (Linda) Vinke of Manning and Cheryl (Frank) Petsche of Goddard, Kansas; brother-in-law, Duane (Kay) Otto of Manning and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. Pastor Nathan Peitsch presided over the service and the music was played by Lynette Thies. The congregational hymn was “The Old Rugged Cross” and the recorded musical selections were “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” by Chris Tomlin and “Far Side Banks of Jordan” by Jimmy Fortune.

The pallbearers were Logan Vinke, Dalton Vinke, Matt Leitz, Tyler Leitz, Austin Leitz and Ryan Bernholtz. The honorary pallbearers were Kristina Bernholtz and McKynlee Vinke. Gary’s final resting place is at the St. Clair Cemetery in Ute.

Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of arrangements.
