A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Todd Owen officiating.

Morris Joseph was born July 19,1917 in Aurora, Nebraska, the son of Joseph and Lulu Swedberg. He graduated from Aurora High School and attended the University of Nebraska for one year. Morris and C. Marie Alcorn, daughter of Carson and Laura Alcorn, were united in marriage September 4, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa. Recently they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.

Morris served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked at several jobs, but his first love was always farming. When the opportunity arose and having saved enough money, Morris and Marie bought their farm near Craig, Nebraska in 1953 where they lived until 2000 when declining health dictated their move to Onawa, Iowa. He continued to manage the farm and buy and sell cattle for feed yard placement into his late 80’s.

His favorite pastime was playing poker which he did into his 90's. He was open to change and progress and was an early proponent of ethanol, solar heating and low/minimum tillage. An entrepreneurial spirit resulted in a fertilizer business and owning and operating the Longhorn Cafe' in Craig for a few years. He had a concern for those in need and a deep interest in the politics to help them.
