Darrell Anderson, 68, Whiting, Iowa died Friday, January 2, 2009, at his residence.

Darrell was born June 22, 1940 at Onawa, Iowa, the son of Anton "Tony" and Gladys (Lee) Anderson. He was raised in the Whiting area and graduated from Whiting High School. Darrell attended Wayne State Teachers College and then worked in biology field at Okoboji, Iowa and on the Missouri River. He constructed swimming pools for over 30 years in Phoenix, Arizona and later in the Dallas, Texas area. He returned to Whiting 18 years ago to help care for his parents.

Darrell was married to Claudia Meeker September 9, 1966 at Scottsdale, Arizona. He was affiliated with Skien Lutheran Church at Albaton, Iowa. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Kirk and Patricia Anderson of Petaluma, CA and Troy and Angela Anderson of Allen, TX; three grandchildren, Hunter, Hailey and Fischer; a sister Dixie Sherrill of Whiting; an uncle, Kermit Lee of Sloan and several nieces, nephews and cousin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and a brother-in-law, Gary Sherrill.

Funeral services were 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2009 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Music selections were "The Dance", "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "Life's Railway to Heaven". A private family burial was at a later date. Visitation was 9:00 A.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
