Charles W. Caldwell, 90, Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Little Sioux, Iowa, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A memorial graveside service was 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in Magnolia Cemetery at Magnolia, Iowa with Pastor Todd Owen officiating. There was no visitation. Rush Family Care Service was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Woodrow Caldwell was born August 15, 1918 at Little Sioux, Iowa, the son of Murrell L. and Ruth M. (Cummings) Caldwell. He was raised at Little Sioux and was a farm laborer in the area. He worked for Doug Hanson many years farming and feeding cattle. Charles joined the United States Army-May 11, 1942. He served in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon during World War II and was discharged December 4, 1945 when he returned to Little Sioux. He retired to Onawa in 2000 and has been a resident at Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting the past three years.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Orval and Roberta Caldwell of Onawa and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Machelle; two brothers, Paul and Cecil and a sister, Ruby Ferris.
