Georgene Montanye, 88, Stuart, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Stuart Community Care Center.

Georgene was born February 15, 1920 at Humphrey, Nebraska, the daughter of Harry Earl and Ida Rose (Folliott) Billings. She was raised in the Humphrey area where she attended school. Georgene and LeRoy E. Montanye were united in marriage April 25, 1954 in Nebraska. Throughout their marriage they lived in Waterloo, Missouri, West Branch, Des Moines and Stuart before making their home in Onawa, Iowa for the past 25 years. LeRoy died July 19, 2000 at Onawa.

Georgene worked as a waitress in DcSoto for several years before moving to Onawa where she owned and operated a daycare facility. She enjoyed bowling, vacationing in Branson, Missouri, shopping, watching her favorite baseball team (the Cubs) and visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed dancing and the fact she and her husband, LeRoy danced on the Lawrence Welk Show.

Survivors include her children Tom (Diane) Montanye of Dexter, Iowa,
Tammy Montanye of Stuart, IA, Jack (Marilyn) Basselt of Omaha, NE, Clifford (Marilyn) Bassett of Omaha, Harry (Maxine) Bassett of Omaha and Ruby Peterson of, Omaha; grandchildren, Reno, Levi, Tiffany, Heidi, Sean, Ben, Ian, Gregg, Jacob, Samantha, Cenyce and Alex; 16 great grandchildren and a host of friends, all of whom will greatly miss her.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Tim Montanye; a brother-in-law, Harlan Montanye, her brothers and sisters, a grandson and a great grandson.

A memorial service was 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Todd Owen officiating. Music selections were "In The Garden", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Angel". Honorary bearers were Georgene's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
