Mary M. Ping, 86, Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Little Sioux, Iowa, died Monday, October 20, 2008 at Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting, Iowa.

Mary Marie was born June 1, 1922 in rural Little Sioux, Iowa, the only daughter and one of six children born to Benjamin Franklin and Nora Belle (Hickman) Bothwell. She grew up along the foothills north of Little Sioux.

Mary and Fredrick "Buck" Ping were united in marriage Mary 23, 1953. They made their home in the Whiting area. After the death of her husband, she made her home at Center Heights apartments in Onawa and also lived with her son, Lonnie in Sacramento, California. Due to failing health, she moved to Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting.

Mary enjoyed her life and always placed her family first. She loved to entertain her nieces and nephews; taking them for walks in the hills and picking wild flowers, playing games with them and also going fishing. She also went to be with each of her brothers; to care for them in the final days. This was a tremendous help to their wives and families. She also enjoyed crafts and loved to crochet.

Survivors include her son, Lonnie Bothwell of Sacramento; two grandchildren, Brian Bothwell and Lisa Bothwell both of Sacramento; three sisters-in-law, Lovetta Bothwell of Little Sioux, Donna Bothwell of Omaha, NE and Wilma Bothwell of Council Bluffs, IA and several nieces and nephews.

She was, preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter-in-law, Angela Bothwell and five brothers, Leo, William, Harry, Delbert and Merle.

A memorial graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Hite Cemetery at Whiting, Iowa with Elder Carolyn Bothwell and Elder Donnie Bothwell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa
