Cloda (Holmes) Croker, 82, Whiting, Iowa died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting.

Cloda was born July 24, 1925 at Albaton, Iowa, the daughter of James Arthur and Jessie (Curl) Holmes. She was raised at Albaton where she attended country school and graduated from Sloan High school in 1944. Later she attended Marion College at Marion, Indiana. She worked at Sloan Mercantile.

Cloda and Don Croker were united in marriage November 7, 1958 at Albaton Wesleyan Church. They made their home in the Whiting area where they raised their children. She worked at Watson Locker over 20 years and also John Holmes Publishing over 20 years.

She was a member of First Congregational Church of Whiting. Cloda dearly loved her family and watching and caring for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Don of Whiting; two sons and their wives, Brian and Brenda of Whiting, and Brent and Kathy of Storm Lake, IA; a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Clarence Tompkins of Whiting; grandchildren, Katelyn, A. J., Kallie and Marcus Croker; two step-grandsons, Heath and Travis Vanden Bosch; and two sisters and their husbands, Eva Dean and Gale Redmond of Sloan, IA and Marge and Rev. Robert Zuhl of Battle Creek, MI and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and her husband, Gladys and Fritz Nelson; a brother, James Ernie Holmes and two infant sisters.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008 at First Congregational Church of Whiting with Rev. Reva Karstens officiating. Music selections were duets, "Amazing Grace" and "Blessed Assurance" provided by Kay MacClure, organist and Fran Haack, pianist. Burial was in Whiting City Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7:00 p m. at Rush Family Care Service at Onawa, Iowa.

Casket bearers were Norman and Mark Zuhl, Myron Nelson, Ralph Guenther, Bob Haack and Jeff Redmond. Honorary bearers were Lorraine and L. T. "Gus" Watson, John Holmes and Roxie Ullrich.
