DAKOTA CITY -- Carmel J. Goss, 80, of Dakota City died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, with the Rev. Judith Wascher officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Carmel was born Oct. 7, 1928, in Viborg, S.D., to Richard and Gertie (Christensen) Andersen. She came to Sioux City as a young girl. She attended Sioux City Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1947.

She married Robert K. Goss on Aug. 22, 1948, in Sioux City. Carmel worked for Roberts Dairy for a few years and worked for Hubbard Milling in Sioux City until retiring in 1990.

She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church and her church circle. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, camping and spending time with her grandchildren. Carmel was a Sioux City Musketeer host parent for 10 years.

Survivors include her husband, Robert K. Goss of Dakota City; a son, Roger D. Goss and his wife, Janice of Sioux City; a daughter, Marilyn S. Edwards and her husband, Tom of Springfield, Neb.; two brothers, James Andersen and his wife, Mary of Sioux City, and Kenny Andersen and his wife, Pauline of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Marian Ream of Sheldon, Iowa, Phyllis Cloud of North Sioux City, and Joyce Miller of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Sheila Dumdei and her husband, Corey, Amy Raymond, Dr. Ryan Goss and Dr. John Edwards; and two great-grandchildren, Cory and Kaiden Goss.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marie; three brothers, Arland, Glenn and John Andersen; and a sister, Joan Ostermeyer.

Pallbearers will be Richard Andersen, Gary Ostermeyer, Doyle and Danny Goss.

Memorials may be made in Carmel's name to Alzheimer's Association or to Salem Lutheran Church.
