Richard Ross McNear, 63, Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Whiting, Iowa died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at Lutheran Family Service Group Home, Storm Lake.

Richard was born August 14, 1939 at Onawa, the son of Richard and Mabel (Ross) McNear. He attended Whiting Public School and worked on the farm with his father and also for Aage and John Neldeberg. May 1991 he moved to Lutheran Family Service Group Home at Storm Lake, IA where he worked in recycling at Genesis. May 1996 he moved to his private apartment, affiliated with the home.

Richard loved being in the outdoors and traveling and sightseeing with his many friends.

Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Donna and John Lee of Ogden, Utah and Mary Lou and Jerry Carritt of Onawa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was, preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Whiting Christian Church with Rusty Hedger, Minister Organ solos, "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were, provided by Janice Neldeberg. Burial was in Whiting Cemetery. Visitation was from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service at Onawa, Iowa.
