Roger W. Anderson Sr., 66, of Blencoe, Iowa, formerly of Turin, Iowa, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa, with his companion Diane (Pranschke) Carter by his side.

An open visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date in Kennebec Cemetery near Castana, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Roger was born on April 11, 1952, to Howard and Yvonne (Jensen) Anderson. He grew up on a farm near Turin, Iowa, and graduated from Onawa High School.

Roger worked for Doug Hanson Feedlot for several years, then beginning his career in construction. He worked for Onawa Truck and Equipment as a truck driver and mechanic, and then finished his career by retiring as a heavy equipment operator for Nelson Rock Construction in 2013.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, and of course his Beer Thirty times at the VFW with his friends. He always looked forward to going up to his son Wesley’s farm in South Dakota to check on the livestock and to pester his grandkids. Roger was a card, and you never knew what he was going to say or do. He was one that could tick you off by always saying what was on his mind. His sense of humor will be missed.

Those left to cherish his memories are his companion of 30+ years, Diane (Pranschke) Carter of Blencoe, IA; his special granddaughter, Sammy Bligh, who was with him through all of his journeys while being sick; his children, Wesley (Jennifer) Anderson of Woonsocket, SD, Roger W. (Tess) Anderson Jr. of Crete, Greece; Amy (Joe) McManigal of Denison, IA, Shelly Anderson of Charter Oak, IA, and Jessica (Eric) Marnell of Hornick, IA; stepdaughters, Christy (Jason) Bligh of Onawa, IA, Kandi Carter of Onawa, IA, and Tonya Gashe of Onawa, IA; twenty-four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one sister, Shirley Anderson of Sioux City, IA; and his best canine friend, Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Yvonne (Jensen) Anderson; sister, Karen Anderson; brother, Gary Anderson; son, Justin Anderson; and stepson, Shane Carter.
