Francesca Epifania Pia Scaffidi, 84, of Whiting, Iowa formerly of Cocoa Beach, Florida passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Father Michael Erpelding, Celebrant officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service time on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Burial will be at a later date in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Francesca Epifania Pia was born on January 18, 1935, in Brolo, Italy, to Cono and Maria (Cappadonna) Speziale. She grew up in Brolo, Italy and also lived in Milan, Italy, and Florence, Italy. She attended school through 6th grade. She was a seamstress for her brother.
She married Costantino Scaffidi on October 11, 1973 in Patti, Italy. After their marriage, they moved to the United States. While her husband was in the Civil Service they spent several years in Germany and Italy. She became a nationalized citizen of the United States on June 15, 1978. To this union, one daughter was born, Giovanna. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2013.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and walking on the beach at Cocoa Beach, Florida from 1973 – 2013.
She was a member of Our Saviour’s Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Survivors include her daughter, Giovanna (Aaron) Wilt of Burke, VA; four grandchildren, Christian, Mariella, Giuliana, and Annasofia Wilt of Burke, VA; and one sister, Rosalia Arrighi of Sesto Fiorentino, Florence, Italy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cono and Maria (Cappadonna) Speziale; her husband, Costantino Scaffidi; two brothers, Carmelo Speziale, and Teodoro (Guglielmina) Speziale; one sister, Dora (Renzo) Casserta; and a brother-in-law, Arrigo Arrighi.
