David Lloyd Amunson passed away at the Dunlap Care Center in Dunlap at 2:15 on Feb. 21. David had been a resident there for several months and was diagnosed with lung cancer about two months ago.

David was born to Milton Laverne Amunson and Hazel Mildred (Eulinger) Amunson on June 12, 1951, along with his twin brother, Donald, at the Onawa Hospital in Onawa.

David was raised on the family farm southwest of Soldier. He attended grade school at Soldier Consolidated High School, graduating from East Monona High School in Moorhead in 1969. He was confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church.

David attended Iowa State University for two years, returning to Soldier where he and brother, Donald, operated a construction business. He returned to Iowa State to take some construction courses and lived there until 1987 when he returned to Soldier because of failing health issues with rheumatoid arthritis. David’s health continued to decline, and he was unable to work.

David enjoyed watching Iowa State athletic events and gardening. He planted a very large garden for many years and canned numerous quantities of vegetables from his gardens.

David lived on the family farm for many years until his health forced him to move off, eventually requiring him to live in a health care facility.

David is survived by a brother, Dale, and wife, Nancy; twin brother, Donald; nephew, Erik (Angela); great-niece, Alexa; and great-nephew ,Ryker.

His parents preceded him in death, father Milton in 1984 and mother Hazel in 2009.

David’s wish was that his body be donated to Creighton University Medical Center for study.

At the present time there will be no service, but at a later date there will be a memorial service. Condolences may be sent to Donald Amunson in Soldier.
